A Forest For Koalas and Migratory Birds
Half a million trees have been grown on from local seed and in a purpose- built nursery to create Koala habitat which joins up other forests in the coastal lakes and waterways of Brolga Lakes, in Burpengary, Brisbane.
A unique biodiversity offset agreement between a landowner and the state government led to the creation of thirty-four hectares of native forest targeted at linking and supporting Koala habitat, and to support the over two hundred and twenty species of birds on the site. The revegetation has been monitored through a research hub established between John Mongard Landscape Architects and the University of Queensland. An outstanding plant survival rate of over ninety percent has been achieved in the revegetation works.
