Hobart had a series of local centres which lacked vibrancy and pedestrian activity. A creative placemaking and activation program was enacted to involve local traders and residents in showing what could be achieved, using pop-up/short-term tactical urbanism in six city centres. Thousands of residents and traders were involved in this community engagement process, which led to selection of a first stage renewal in one of the centres. Collaborative design workshops created onsite sketch plans for each main street.
