Wauchope is a regional town with a growing suburban population. The main street suffers from heavy traffic and insufficient safe pedestrian crossings. The vibrancy of the main street is affected by these patterns.
A week long ‘Set-up Shop’ community design process identified places to gather, cross the street and areas for traffic calming. A pedestrian-priority traffic plan was developed and involved intersection, signage and crossing improvements. Grant funding was successful and works on the main street over the key areas were able to be built.
A main street masterplan developed themes based on the timber town heritage. Guidelines for streetscape character were developed as part of a whole-of-town plan.
