Urban Design

Our practice plays a significant role in promoting vibrancy in public realms and by supporting local culture and ecology throughout Australian towns. We have instigated contemporary approaches to creating and maintaining place character in Australia.

Guidelines for environmentally sustainable development have been at the forefront of our research, with projects such as Brolga Lakes, The Ecovillage at Currumbin and the Tooradin Village Community Plan, both highlighting new ways of dealing with infrastructure and development.

Strategic planning for urban centres has been undertaken throughout Australia, leading to structure plans, development control plans, cultural plans and economic development plans. We specialise in taking a project from strategic planning right through to street detailing.

Our process begins with on the ground engagement: we ‘Set-up Shop’ in public spaces, and we imagine the future with hundreds of people in order to understand local values and culture. We transform these ideas into long-term plans for regions, districts and places. We plan with climate change and low carbon futures in mind. We aim for plans, policies and guidelines which enable vibrancy and sustainability to be integral to places, large or small.
